Book left at the Ogden Museum of Southern Art - History of its Discovery

New Orleans Book 2 - Ogden Museum: Full Story

Book Found September 2019

On Monday April 8, 2019, we left a green-spined book in the bookstore on the main floor of the Odgen Museum of Southern Art, which is located in the museum district around Lee Circle in downtown New Orleans and dedicated to contemporary and older American art from the south or southern state artists. On the spine Steuart has drawn a silver stick on an otherwise empty canvas.

In September of this year we got a message that this book had been found by a woman who makes books herself. She said the book fell into her hands. Then, she had a harangue with the clerk when she said she was taking the book. A lively discussion insued and people in the bookstore got involved. Eventually she left the museum with the book to meet her parents who were visiting the WWII museum across the street. The others that had seen her in the bookstore congratulated here.

The book included drawings Steuart made, a few of the last ones made at our AirBnB in the St. Johns Bayou area of New Orleans. I included some poems, and then we wrote a bit of travel journal about our visit to this unique city. One friend who lives in town showed us the park, great restaurants and told us about her projects to do historic restoration after Hurricane Katrina.

The joy that we got from the new owner of this book lifted us to make a few more books that we distributed in Texas.
