Book left at the Irish National Galleries of Art - History of its Discovery

Europe Book Drop - Dublin Book Found

Book Found September 2017

After spending time in Ireland, we had a day in Dublin, and visited on Monday August 28, 2017, the National Gallery and left the first unique book we made to throw into the stream of information. And when we returned from dropping all the books we brought with us to Europe we got a postcard that told us this book was found by people who love books. Edward and Evelyn have a book publishing company that publishes diaries and other personal texts that are found often years after they were written. They like discoveries.

Getting this postcard made our holiday season in 2017 - what a gift, and then Edward sent us a couple great books that he's published, and then the following year a book he sends to friends that describes his year - you probably get a letter like this from some friends - but this beautiful book talks about the art and culture that they saw in the year.

That day, we tried to see an exhibition on Vermeer and his techniques. It is a ticketed show, but sold out and they said no way could we see it. I was particularly nervous about figuring out how to hide this book in the bookstore. I had wanted to finish writing the journal part, which we intended to continue the theme of the books, which was to give information about visual art in the world at this time - contempoary art. There wasn't really a contempoary show, our first choice option being to see old paintings. Both of us had just read a book by David Hockney, the painter, about Vermeer's technique and probably how artists of his circle used photographic aids before cameras were invented. This did interest us. How different has painting looked since photography.
